Our Services
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy includes an interactive process between the client and the therapist. Individual therapy is beneficial to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors for the purpose of problem solving and achieving higher levels of functioning. The therapist’s goal is to assist the client in developing stronger self-differentiation and increase the individual’s sense of their own well-being.
Family Therapy
Family therapy assists two or more members in improving communication and resolving conflicts. This type of therapy may include all family members or those able to participate. North Star Guidance therapists design a specific treatment plan tailored to your family’s situation. Family therapy sessions have the potential to strengthen family cohesiveness and teach skills to navigate difficult situations even after therapy has commenced.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy helps couples of all types recognize, resolve conflicts, and improve their relationships. This type of therapy can assist you in making thoughtful decisions on how to rebuild your relationship or how to dissolve it. Couples therapy usually includes both partners however it is common for one partner to work with a therapist individually in addition to doing couples work. Our therapists develop a treatment plan to address your situation and what would be most beneficial based on your treatment goals.
Adolescents/Children
When working with adolescents and children, therapy must be structured differently than that of an adult. Therapy is designed to assist younger clients in making sense of their feelings and behavior while being mindful of the client’s developmental age. Approaches such as play in therapy and Theraplay provide both parent and client the chance of exploring their issues, relationships and voicing their feelings in a supportive environment. Expressive techniques such as play, art, music, and sandtray therapy offer an alternative to traditional talk therapy while empowering teens and children in expressing themselves through a different medium.
Christian Counseling
Christian counseling is incorporating the life and love of Jesus Christ in the therapeutic process to help clients work towards change. The therapist utilizes Biblical teachings and relies upon the Holy Spirit to assist in the journey of healing and advancing of goals.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative therapy that helps people heal from traumatic events as well as life disturbing experiences. EMDR has gotten worldwide attention for helping millions of people heal from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) caused from traumatic events such as rape, sexual abuse, auto accidents and combat.
EMDR can also help people who feel distress in their lives to heal and feel more whole after disturbing events such as divorce, life transitions, grief, anxiety, and much more.
EMDR uses Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) to help facilitate the work.
